Way back when in the mid-70's, the Bank of London kept track of 100 000 paper clips. The results are as follows:

- Only about 20 000 were used to hold papers together.
- 25 000 were swept into the trash after falling on the floor.
- 19 143 were used as card game chips.
- 14 163 were twisted during telephone conversations.
- 7 200 held clothing together.
- 5 423 were used to pick teeth and/or ears.
- 5 308 were used to clean fingernails.
- 3 916 were used to unplug tobacco pipes.

biztravel.com.This site is fairly customisable in terms of the reservations, purchases and even information you choose. Registration is compulsory before you can move (each attempt before you register sends you to the same page) so it's not handy for browsing but once registered you can create a profile for the info you want which will be delivered with no frills. Interesting points are bizTraveler (in-house magazine), bizMiles where you can check your airmile account(s) in one convenient place and the fact that the hotel recommendations under city guides come from first hand reviews. Ticket purchases can be made from the US only. Worth a look.

Women Executives Travel ClubThe cynic in me is dying to be let loose on this site but, in fairness to its developers (Delta Airline and American Express), there is some useful and practical information contained herein - minimizing jet lag for one. This is essentially a member's club (waiting list for 1999 open now) in which one can receive discounts on hotel reservations, get specially negotiated deals on flights and generally feel superior to non-members. A useful and informative resource to non-members and all the benefits of club membership to those who join up. My parting shot is to lament the patronising 'feel-good' tone of its pitch, after all 'sometimes its hard to be a woman..'

DineNet/ CuisineNet. A market place where you can purchase gourmet coffee, chocolate, cigars et al., join clubs, a Diner's Digest full of interesting articles and a 'cafe' of short stories/ observations all serve to make this site exceptional. The restaurant review part is based on city choice (US only) under each of which lie option for recommendations and searches. What few have actual menus on-line is shadowed by the choice of selections. Recommended.
